Candidates file for council seats

With the opportunity to file for office this election year ending last Friday, Moorcroft and Pine Haven residents interested in becoming a member of the town council have stepped up and recorded their names with the their respective Clerk’s Offices and their names will be sent on to the Crook County Clerk this week.

Due to unusual circumstances over the last couple of years, all five Moorcroft Council seats and four of the five Pine Haven seats are open for the 2022 elections.

Moorcroft

The entire governing body is seeking re-election on the Moorcroft Council including incumbent Ben Glenn, who has been acting mayor since the resignation of Dick Claar. Glenn is running for Mayor, a four-year term.

Incumbent council member Dale Petersen has filed for a two-year position; incumbent Dustin Petz, appointed to the seat opened when Glenn accepted the mayor’s chair, is seeking a four-year position; incumbent Austin Smith, a four-year seat; and incumbent Paul Smoot, a two-year seat.

Two additional citizens who have set their hats to the job are Robert Stewart, seeking a four-year place; and John Aloisio, a two-year seat.

Pine Haven

With the death of Mayor John Cook, Karla Brandenburg was appointed to the mayoral seat for the remainder of Cook’s term. She is running to remain in the seat for four years.

Fred Nelson is also seeking the position of mayor.

Incumbent Kristy Speed has filed for a four-year council member position; Rob Norton is also seeking a four-year place; and with Don Lancaster not seeking election to remain in the seat opened by Brandenburg’s appointment, Suzette Edwards is running for the two-year seat.

The primary elections will be held on August 16 and the general will be November 8.
