As a special treat for story book hour during this year's National Library Week, Youth Services Librarian Lacy Rasco read stories about the adventures of the PAW patrol as they save their neighborhood from varied calamities and her audience of more than 100 children from one to ten years of age listened with baited breath.
This story time, though, was a little different. As she finished reading, the crowd parted and who showed up, but the heroes themselves with Rasco giving a short biography for each one as they came forward!
Marshal, the Dalmatian led the way, he's the team's fire dog and is very brave, but excitable and is always ready to roll. Skye, the Cockapoo, followed him, she's a fearless daredevil, who will try anything "with grace and a smile". The last doggie through the door was Chase. This German Shepherd can herd traffic and block dangerous paths, but is allergic to cats and feathers.
Parents smiled at the bright eyed excitement the kids showed as they met their story book pals and were able to say hello. The event soon ended and the youngsters headed home, ready to dream about sharing more adventures with their furry friends.
This is just the beginning of this season's fun. The Moorcroft Branch Public Library is even now preparing for their next exciting event, which is the Safety and Business Expo on June 4. The library team will be giving away books and pieces of chalk for patrons, who can feel their inner Picasso, to draw pictures on the parking lot.
The Lego Guy will help kick off the Summer Reading Program on June 8 and the library will be hosting American pop artist Michael Albert on July 5, who creates beautiful cereal box art. Rasco promises guests of this free program, "will have the chance to make their own piece of art under the direction of Mr. Albert". Later, the Summer Reading Program ends with a barbecue and water games for participants of the program.
