The Voice of the Community Since 1909, Serving Moorcroft and Pine Haven, Wyoming
After three years as chief of the Moorcroft Volunteer Fire Department, Rusty Williamson has resigned.
Williamson has been a volunteer firefighter for 22 years; during those years, he has served as a captain and an assistant chief as well as the chief of the department.
In his resignation, Williamson commended the crew with whom he works.
“It has been a great honor to serve this community and dept. I have seen remarkable commitment from the department, community, and city officials,” he wrote.
“I couldn’t be prouder of what we were able to accomplish together…You are a model of resilience and a testament to the highest calling of service. Your hard work, accomplishments and desire to serve this community have always reflected your commitment to service above self.”
He intends to remain as a firefighter, but says, “I just don’t have the capacity, with work, to lead the department.”
The fire department will elect a new chief and the town council will approve (or not) the appointment at their next meeting.
In the meantime, according to Williamson, assistant chiefs Dan Swaney and Kelli Donahue will lead.
