WAWA Junior State

This past weekend, 13 of the Moorcroft Wrestlers traveled to Lander to wrestle in the WAWA Junior State Tournament, wrestling both Greco and Freestyle. This tournament was a qualifier for the Wyoming National Team in Fargo, ND this July, the Cultural Exchange tournament in Spain in June and to be a Triple Crown winner, winning high school state, Greco and Freestyle. As a team, Moorcroft placed first in both Greco and Freestyle and had one Triple Crown winner. Individual placers were:

Greco:

Champion:

Dayne Humes - winning his matches by decision, 25-29 and with a tech fall, 14-4.

Second Place:

Haven Vrana

Trenten Gray - making it into the finals where he lost and had to wrestle for a true second where he won by tech fall, 28-11.

Third Place:

Braydnn Terry went 2-2; Randy Peters went 2-2; Christopher Boardman, 0-2; and Oliver Gorsuch went 2-2.

Fourth Place:

Shane Hannah went 4-2; and Braizyn Humpal, 2-2.

Sixth Place:

Richie Allison went 1-3; Marcus James, 0-4; and Luke Bjorklund, 1-3.

Preston Hedlund, 0-2.

As a team in Greco, they placed first with 219 team points. High scorers were, Trenten Gray with 45 points, followed by Randy Peters with 28 and Shane Hannah with 27.

Freestyle:

Champion:

Dayne Humes went 3-0, winning all with pins to take the championship and also being a Triple Crown champion.

Second Place:

Haven Vrana went 3-1, winning his matches with pins and a tech fall to place second.

Third Place:

Braydnn Terry went 3-2, winning his matches by tech falls. Trenten Gray went 4-2.

Fourth Place:

Randy Peters went 2-2, winning both his matches with a pin.

Fifth Place:

Preston Hedlund went 2-2; Braizyn Humpal went 2-2; Oliver Gorsuch went 2-2, winning his placing match with a pin in 1:24.

Sixth Place:

Shane Hannah went 3-3; and Marcus James, 1-3.

In freestyle, the team placed first with 163 team points. High scorers were Dayne Humes with 30 points, followed by Braydnn Terry with 28 and Haven Vrana with 25 points. Dayne Humes, by winning all three styles, won his Triple Crown Championship.

Next up for the post season wrestling is the Black Hills Nationals AAU tournament March 18-19, in Spearfish, SD, followed by the Montana Open, March 25-26, in Billings and Folkstyle Nationals in Cedar Falls, IA. April 1-3.
