The Voice of the Community Since 1909, Serving Moorcroft and Pine Haven, Wyoming
The Moorcroft chapter of the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) and local coordinator Amy Anderson hosted a spaghetti dinner fundraiser Monday night in the new Moorcroft High School FFA barn.
"To raise funds for state and national conferences," said member Kylee DeCoteau of the reason for the event. "FCCLA members sell Italian sodas at home games; organize Valentine's Day gift sales; and this year, a game night and spaghetti feed."
The team also wants to raise awareness of the organization and its purpose as part of optional school activities.
The association describes itself as "a career and technical student organization that functions as an integral part of the Family and Consumer Sciences education curriculum and operates within the school system."
The society has been recognized as a means for young people to learn how and why to become involved in their communities. Through participation in events and leadership conferences, they develop skills to help them become "college and career ready" in the real world.
Moorcroft members enjoy the camaraderie and training they receive. First year member Olivia Paden advocated joining the team: "FCCLA offers members the opportunity to expand their leadership potential and develop skills for life."
"FCCLA is unique among youth organizations," Melibe Downey, also a member, campaigned, "Because its programs are planned and run by members and it has family as its central focus."
Around 20 guests attended, the group received a few donations from those who could not be present and, according to associate Jacelyn Downey, "The girls did get to practice their speech that they will deliver at the state conference!"
