The Voice of the Community Since 1909, Serving Moorcroft and Pine Haven, Wyoming
West Texas Trail Museum curator Cindy Mosteller recently shared a couple of the upcoming events at the museum to which guests are invited within the next few months – as well as a change of scenery.
Mosteller plans to remodel the museum, rotating out some exhibits and moving others into different positions, freshening the look within the next few weeks.
"I'm expanding the Texas Trail part; I'm going to have stories, background and pictures of people who were actually on the drives," she says. She hopes to have the exhibit complete by April.
On Saturday, January 29 at 11 a.m., Richard Kaan will be presenting stories and facts to take folks back for a while to days of bellowing cattle and rocking stage coaches and Mosteller will be serving up biscuits and gravy to really share the taste of those days.
Kaan lives in Hot Springs, SD and grew up north of Lusk, WY where the old Crazy Woman Stage line ran through their ranch. Over the years, he developed an interest, you might even say a bit of a passion, for these old stage lines and cattle trails.
On Thursday, March 10, at 6 p.m., the museum will be collaborating with the Moorcroft Branch Library to bring Kylie Louise McCormick to educate and entertain visitors with the history of women's suffrage in Wyoming.
A group of avid cyclists will be reenacting The Great Bicycle Experiment that came through town back in 1896, when a division of buffalo soldiers, trying to prove bicycles were just as versatile as horses, rode from Missoula, MT to Saint Lewis, MI, in celebration of the 125th anniversary of that ride in September. They'll be coming through Moorcroft Labor Day weekend, on Sunday, September 4.
People can read about the original experiment in The Great Bicycle Experiment by Kay Moore. Mosteller says, "They actually spent the night just outside of Moorcroft when they came through originally. They rode 1900 miles."
So plan on dropping by and enjoying a little time visiting history!
