In an effort to promote better reading habits, MK-8 students and their families were invited to a "Fall in love with s'more Reading" themed evening last Thursday.
As parents arrived, they were provided with an overview of the reading program by Principal Linda Enright as well as handouts with reading tips and strategies for the family in the cafeteria. In the meantime, the kids gathered around "campfires" in the gymnasium to eat s'mores snack mix and listen to fun stories; they also received goody bags and prizes.
Kindergarten teacher Emily Bishop had come up with this theme from the many offered.
"Our principal asked the entire staff for any ideas for a title reading night and I passed along this idea to both principals and our Parent Action Committee," she says. "This event was focused on promoting the importance of reading, as well as encouraging kids and their families to spend time reading together."
"I absolutely loved this event and I look forward to more like this at MK8," smiles Bishop. "It is so fun to see students and their families coming back to the school after hours for different events like this. I think it was a great turnout, too!"
