HDR Engineering’s Nolan Fraser watched as contractor Wyoming Earth Moving Corp (WEC), out of Gillette, began the anticipated two week project of chip sealing East and West Pine, Cottonwood, Cedar and Spruce Streets as well as Cedar Hills Drive in Pine Haven Monday.
The crew began the process of blading, rolling, spraying the prime coat and applying blotter (sand to ensure traffic is able to travel on the roads without lifting the sub coat as it cures).
They subsequently applied the first layer of chip seal to the cured substrate material, completing the first layer on all roadways before Friday. The second application of chip seal will take place on Friday and Saturday with all streets receiving a final sweep and inspection Monday, September 27.
The dust produced by driving on these and other gravel and dirt roadways within the township has been problematic for Pine Haven residents and the council for some time. This upgrade has been long awaited.
The governing body funded this project with the 1% sales tax return and, according to Councilwoman Karla Brandenburg, plan to repeat the use of said funding next fiscal year to continue such needed street upgrades, “Hopefully cutting down on the dust”.
