Moorcroft’s town council has recently mitigated the verbiage of certain ordinances to make them enforceable. One such adjustment is to the nuisance ordinance and addresses vegetation as well as street worthy automobiles and proper storage cover.
Starting with the law governing the allowable height of grass and weeds on any property whether developed or not within the township says it cannot exceed eight inches. Tree branches are to be cut eight feet above sidewalks and 14 feet off the streets.
The police will also be ascertaining the drive readiness of vehicles on the streets in town with less tolerance for a “temporary fix.”
“In the past,” according to Moorcroft Police Chief Bill Bryant, “As long as it would start and move backwards and forwards, we’d let it slide. Now, one of changes is for vehicles to really perform – put the key in the ignition, turn it on and move it back and forth; the other part of that is it has to be registered.”
The chief also wants people to know that the plastic tarps used in town as vehicle covers will no longer be tolerated: “We are trying to make this town look better. I don’t think the blue tarp special is fitting so we’ll be pushing more for the commercial car covers.” This is also an active ordinance.
The third big change is camping on private property. The new ordinance limits the guests’ stay in a motor home or camper in the yard to 14 days.
“So you can have the family come over, bring the RV for a couple weeks, that’s understandable, but we do have some people living in campers and have been for quite some time and that is no longer going to be allowed,” he said.
Citations for all of these offences include an obligatory appearance before a judge. Bryant assures residents these changes will be upheld.
