Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor,

I understand the public is invited to express their opinions concerning the moving of City Hall, etc. to the MTC.

I have visited with many citizens concerning this and basically, I get the same opinion – they do not like the idea of this move. I have mentioned they express their opinion to the City Council and I mostly get the same response: “They will do what they want anyway”. I guess this is my reason for not speaking up before also. I also admit I have not gone to many meeting where this has been discussed.

My thoughts and opinions are such: I do understand the reasoning for doing something as space for these offices is very limited and much more room is needed. However, my strong feeling is that I am very upset with making our downtown area more of a skeleton than it already is.

I am of the opinion that the Mayor and City Council members should be looking out for what is best for our town. I am sure this has been discussed thoroughly and pros and cons looked at; however, the people of the town should have their say also.

I have a couple of opinions and perhaps they have been looked at before, however, I believe our town is the most important.

I don’t understand why the garage area of the existing building could not be renovated into large spacious offices, etc. Someone said it was looked at before, but I still think it’s possible to use this space.

Another opinion is, why not build onto the existing building? There are vacant lots available at this time. No matter what is done this move will cost A LOT OF MONEY, maybe some ideas more than others, but the cost of losing our center of town is worth a lot also.

Thank you for hearing me out, these are only my opinions at this time.

I do thank the Mayor and all the City Council members, as well as all the City employees. You are all respected and well thought of; you overall do an excellent job for our great town of Moorcroft, Wyoming. I am proud to live here.

Mary Lou Petersen, Moorcroft
