Clerk Cheryl Schneider brought before the council on Monday a question from the Moorcroft Senior Citizens’ for the Jubilee committee to waive the vendor’s fee at Jubilee this summer, stating that they want to sell lemonade by donation only.
The request instigated some debate among the governing body. The issue questioned was policing such a situation if, later, as was hypothesized by Paul Smoot, other vendors wanted to follow suit.
After considering the possible implications of the seemingly innocuous request, Councilman Ben Glenn expressed his concern, too, about the possible ramifications.
Smoot mentioned the possibility of someone donating the $25 vendor’s fee itself as an option that would mitigate any future problems.
Glenn responded, “We’ve done that before, when the kids would come in and want to have a snow cone stand, one of us would typically cover it and it was done.”
The request was approved.
