After missing last year’s event because of the COVID-19 lockdown, the Moorcroft Area Chamber of Commerce (MACC) hosted their 2021 Spring Fling Cleanup Day last Thursday.
Chamber spokeswoman Elaine Buckmiller later noted that, with all the help from MHS students and faculty as well as many other volunteers providing pickups and trailers as well as space and equipment for the event, the clean-up day was considered “a huge success”.
Within the four hours of work by volunteers on Thursday morning, 8.9 tons of refuse was hauled to the landfill.
A total of 50 batteries and 300 gallons of used motor oil were collected for proper disposal; three steel bins were transported to Pacific Steel in Gillette for recycling; one freezer was properly prepared for disposal; and 20 trailers were loaded with tree branches were removed.
One volunteer, according to Buckmiller, opined that the affair actually makes a difference in Moorcroft and they are “proud to be a part of it”.
On Saturday, May 15, residents showing a current water bill are encouraged to dump at the municipal landfill free of charge.
MACC promotes this opportunity to “keep the cleanup going Moorcroft”.
