On Thursday, the Lady Wolves traveled to Wright for a make-up game.
The junior varsity started the night off right with a pressure defense and rebounding to transition that caused problems for the Panthers. The Lady Wolves won the JV game, 21-2.
The varsity team then took the floor. They got off to a slow start in the first quarter, but saw themselves ahead, 26-17 at the end of the first half. The Wolves were again unable to put much distance between themselves and the Panthers, but were able to close out the game with a 46-33 victory.
I thought we came out a little flat and weren’t able to execute like we have been. It is always good to get a victory on the road and both the junior varsity and varsity girls were able to accomplish that.
On Saturday, the Tigers from Lusk came to town. The junior varsity game was a quick, up-tempo game from the start. Lusk got out to an early lead and were ahead, 22-14 at the half, but the Wolves didn’t stop and were able to close the gap to two points at the end of the game, losing 46-44.
The team had great effort throughout the game and it could have gotten away from them when they were down, but they kept fighting.
The varsity took the floor for only their second home game since December 17. The first quarter was a battle with neither team able to gain distance, but found the Lady Wolves ahead, 15-12.
The team locked down on defense in the second quarter, holding the Tigers to only six points, and led at the half, 28-18. The second half was much of the same for the Wolves as Lusk didn’t score in double figures in the third or fourth quarter. The Lady Wolves came out with a 55-31 victory.
We talked in practice all week and before the game about getting it done on the defensive end of floor and I thought we did a really good job of that. Our communication was really what set it apart for us and allowed us to get the stops we needed. Good defense led to good transition opportunities for us on the offensive end. It was a really good effort on both sides of the ball.
The Lady Wolves return to action on Friday when they host the Big Horn Rams and again on Saturday against the Wright Panthers.
