MIC pantries serve record numbers for January

The Moorcroft Interfaith Community (MIC) saw record numbers of clients at its food pantries during the month of January.

“January was kind of crazy,” says MIC President Monte Reichenberg. “We had a suspicion that numbers would be up after the holidays. But the numbers surprised us.”

Reichenberg went on to say that the first pantry on January 7 was rather modest as the pantry served 176 families representing 580 individuals. But the Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies Mobile pantry on January 14 was attended by a record 348 families representing 1182 individuals from Crook, Weston and Campbell Counties.

The final pantry on January 21 also set a record for families reached at one of MIC’s regular pantries when they served 246 families representing 764 individuals. The total for the month of January was 770 families and 2526 individuals; both record highs for MIC.

“It is simply amazing what God is doing in our area,” says Reichenberg. “And we could not do it without the many donors and volunteers that give of their finances and time to make it all happen.”

Cox Horseshoeing, Downey Ranch, Diehl’s Supermarket, the Moorcroft Chamber of Commerce and many individuals donated to the MIC Pantry in January. Reichenberg also expresses appreciation for the many volunteers who worked hard to make this all possible.

To thank them, the MIC is planning a Volunteer Appreciation Banquet starting at 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 21, 2021 at the Moorcroft Town Center Cafeteria. We will be serving ribs, potato salad, baked beans, chips, hot dogs and drinks.

All volunteers and their families are welcome. Please RSVP to Pastor Monte [email protected] or contact one of our board members, Randy and Rebecca Blakeman, Walt and Kathleen Campbell, Nancy Feehan, Ginger Gerstner, Fonzy and Heather Haskell or Jody Bagley.

MIC is looking for volunteers to sign up for one time per month. Contact: [email protected]

All Crook County, Weston and Eastern Campbell Counties welcome to our pantries.

Beginning in February, Moorcroft Interfaith Community will become a TFAP Agency, which means that we will be receiving and distributing government commodities in addition to the current food items. TFAP recipients must self-certify household income to qualify. TFAP certified families will get the regular offering plus the TFAP. As with all things new, it might take a while to iron out the bugs so your patience is appreciated. If all goes according to plan, our first TFAP distribution will be at the WFBR Crook County Mobile Pantry on February 11, 2021.
