State grant approved for Moorcroft

The Town of Moorcroft has been approved for a $203,000 grant from the State Land and Investment Board (SLIB) under the CARES Act. These funds will be delivered into the town’s general funds account as reimbursement for wages paid to clerks and police during the pandemic.

Though the money is not restricted for particular issues, the municipality has reserved $4000 to cover laptop computers and any other equipment needed for office personnel to work from home when necessary. The rest, according to Mayor Dick Claar, “We’ll probably just prioritize items and spend it on needs we weren’t able to take care of in the budget.”

Claar also stated that the council has authorized Clerk/Treasurer Cheryl Schneider to apply a second time to the SLIB under the CARES Act in an effort to acquire funds to move town hall to the MTC, reasoning, “A move up there would give the police and town hall room to properly space.” This next application must be submitted by November 19.

Wyoming’s SLIB is delegating $1.25 billion amongst the municipalities and counties under the auspices of the CARES Act.
