John Thomas Mahoney, who would be called Tom or Tommy his whole life, was born July 5, 1943 in Belle Fourche. He was the son of Lowell and Eva (Pehringer) Mahoney.
Tom grew up on the family ranch west of Alva. He was united in marriage to Delores Wood on April 28, 1966 and they made their home at the ranch, raising three children there.
Tom enjoyed hunting but he especially loved fishing. He also enjoyed drinking coffee and visiting with friends and family whenever he got the chance.
He especially liked telling stories of his years working at the sawmill in Hulett at night and working the ranch during the day. He was quite the storyteller.
Tom will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Tom is survived by his wife, Delores of Alva; sons, Steve (Leslie) of Belle Fourche, Justin (Amber) of Phoenix, Arizona; daughter, Amanda Mahoney of Laramie, Wyoming; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and sister, Judy Mahoney of Carlile, Wyoming. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Patty Rathbun.
