RCS Construction started draining cell two of the lagoon on Monday for the long-awaited, DEQ-mandated project that will cost Moorcroft $4.9 million.
About a year ago, the DEQ dealt the hard fact to the council: they are no longer willing to allow the town’s noncompliance with state and federal regulations without seeing a strong push forward to reestablish acquiescence.
“They are really dictating to us,” Mayor Dick Claar explains the position in which the town finds itself. “We need to make these improvements and then, hopefully, they’ll put us back into compliance. We’re choosing the best option we know available.”
After the cell is drained, the RCS crew will begin dredging (cleaning out) the cell.
