Friday, September 4, the Wolves embraced the new 2020 season with COVID-19 regulations as they hosted the Greybull Buffaloes. The team started the game strong, taking only six plays for Zane Linder to connect with Lane Wood on a 67-yard touchdown and capping that off with a two-point conversion by Hunter Garoutte.
The Wolves’ defense made some big stops on the first defensive series against the Buffaloes by ending their drive, forcing and recovering a fumble. The pack, again, marched down the field led by a great running attack, to finish the drive with a 22-yard touchdown from Zane Linder to Chaz Dewey.
Once again, the team’s defense came up big with another turnover. Zane Linder made the interception, which brought an end to the second drive for the Buffalo. Following that, the Buffalo made the Wolves punt the ball.
The Wolves’ defense held Greybull again while the offense took the ball and moved down the field to get a score with another Linder to Wood, receiving touchdown.
The third quarter was a battle from both teams, leaving the score 20-0. But the pack persevered and found the end zone once again. Clay Stripp brought a touchdown in from Linder. The Wolves’ running game really opened up the passing game.
The packs’ defense would not let the offense have all the fun, though. Lane Wood made his third interception of the game and took it down town for a pick six. The Buffaloes attacked the Wolves defense and finally scored, making the final score 34 to 7 and the Wolves opening up the season strong.
Zane Linder led the team with 177 passing yards and four touchdowns; Hunter Garoutte led the team in rushing 118 yards; and Lane Wood led the team in receiving with 105 yards and two touchdowns.
