Glenn Construction was recently hired to rebuild the retaining wall along the west side of Moorcroft’s maintenance yard east of Westview Park.
The rebuild includes the installation of three new drains and associated “inlet boxes” at strategic points within the reconstructed wall to ensure run off has an avenue of escape without again knocking the giant Lego type concrete blocks over.
Contractor Ben Glenn explained that the original plans for the area around the yard had three tiered walls to mitigate the weight of the water.
“But due to budgets and everything, there is only one wall and if you don’t control your water, it can push on that wall,” he says.
The town chose to be proactive in saving the structure and laid in the drainage “from the top side” before losing more than what had already fallen to the pressure of runoff.
All invoices for this job will be paid from the third specific (SPOT tax) fund as an upgrade to infrastructure and will be completed by Friday.
