At the last meeting of the Moorcroft Town council, a two-inch diameter water line was approved to run from the main along Highway 14, through the municipal cemetery to the end of town property in anticipation of the commercial building that is planned to go onto the adjoining privately owned property.
Mayor Dick Claar later said that, while there is no immediate necessity for the installation, the council would like to see it completed “before the frost”.
This work had been discussed on several occasions since the subject of a possible satellite veterinary clinic was first broached to the governing body last year. This water access will possibly be used as a water source for the cemetery as well in the future.
“But,” said Public Works Director Cory Allison, “we’re not planning to do anything with it this summer.”
In these discussions, the governing body had considered an eight-inch line.
“We would have to have it engineered and permitted,” according to Claar. Councilman Dale Petersen agreed, “I like the idea of an eight inch, but, at this point, it doesn’t financially make sense.”
Allison had his crew digging the trench to the “top of the hill” on the east side of the cemetery Monday morning and just inside the north cemetery fence.
