The meeting of the Moorcroft Town Council came together Monday night via conference call with no issues and a quick resolution of the agenda.
Two bids were recognized for the town owned property immediately north of Town Hall, one of which was awarded with restrictions for $1500 by Caleb Massie.
The dilapidated buildings on these two lots have been an issue for the governing body for years with no buyers in sight who would tear them down. For all intents and purposes, the structures are condemned and considered unsafe for habitation. The Moorcroft Senior Center was the last entity to leave, allowing the town to advertise the entire two lots on which the three storefronts stand for sale.
At a previous meeting, local businessman Neil Gray offered to buy the property in an effort to regenerate down town Moorcroft,
“If we can find some way to entice somebody to do something with that land, I’d be interested in pushing that along as much as possible.
My goal [would be to] get it to the point where it’s just a flat piece of ground all cleaned up. At that point, I would decide on selling it to a developer.”
With this proposition in mind, the body again put the lots out for bid and unexpectedly, there was another offer that came in higher and was accepted.
Massie agreed to have the property cleared within a year of the awarding of said bid as part of the title
restrictions associated with the property.
