On Friday, February 14, four members of the Whitcomb FFA chapter and Moorcroft Ag Mechanics class attended the Tech Battle Day at Gillette College. They competed in Industrial Electrical, Machine Tool, Diesel Mechanics and Welding.
Each event challenged the boys and tested not only their knowledge but skills. Industrial Electrical was an event that required the team to wire a wall with various fixtures and tie that branch into the circuit box.
Machine Tool required them to use micrometers to get measurements of a specified piece and then mount the piece on a lathe in preparation for turning. In the Diesel Mechanics event, the team had to interpret hydraulic symbols, create a hydraulic circuit and answer questions to problem solve issues in the circuit.
To wrap it all up, the Welding competition required the boys to read a set of plans and build the metal structure according to the plans using flux cored, stick, and MIG welding.
The team took high team over all in industrial electrical and third place in the overall competition. They were awarded a $500 Scholarship each and two arm loads of tool.
Good job fellas for representing Whitcomb FFA and MHS.
