Moorcroft man arrested on drug possession charges

Moorcroft resident Charles Clarence Birr has been arrested on possession charges after a search of his residence for an associated case revealed numerous items related to meth use.

On January 21, a Crook County Sheriff’s Office deputy was conducting a search warrant of the Birr residence in Moorcroft associated with a related case involving burglary. While standing in the living room, the deputy reports noticing items related to drug use in plain view.

These included a glass pipe next to the couch where Birr was seated that the deputy notes is commonly used for smoking meth. On the coffee table, the deputy allegedly observed the corner of a baggie that appeared to contain powder residue.

Birr allegedly admitted to having used the pipe within the last few days to smoke meth and told the deputy there were likely other items in the house used for the same purpose. Birr gave written consent for law enforcement to search the house for these items.

The search allegedly turned up items including three more baggies containing powder residue, multiple glass pipes containing powder residue and a glass pipe that later tested presumptive positive for meth.

Birr has been charged with possession of a controlled substance, third or subsequent offense, a felony carrying a maximum penalty of five years’ incarceration, a $5000 fine or both. Birr has two prior known convictions in Natrona County in 1999 and Sheridan County in 2002.
