On Monday, the Lady Wolves Junior Varsity team took on Sundance JV. It was a competitive game with neither team able to gain much ground, but in the fourth quarter, the Wolves were able to get some key baskets and convert turnovers into layups and were able to pull out the victory, 43-36. Coach Hulm was proud of the effort and ability to get defensive stops when needed.
The Lady Wolves returned to action on Friday, when they traveled to Big Horn for a conference game. The JV set the tone for the evening with a convincing 58-27 victory.
The Varsity game saw a close first half with Big Horn taking a couple leads and the Wolves responding to keep the game close with the Wolves taking a 30-25 lead into the half. We knew coming out of the half that we had to continue to execute and after a couple of adjustments, the Lady Wolves did just that.
The third quarter was close, but the fourth quarter saw the team outscore Big Horn, 25-5. Big Horn’s only points in the fourth quarter came on free throws.
I thought we really locked down defensively, did a great job of rebounding and got stops. On the offensive end, we moved the ball really well and found girls open for layups. The Lady Wolves won the game, 67-42.
The Lady Wolves turned around the next day and headed to Wright for another conference game with the JV again starting the night off right by getting a 54-28 victory. Coach Hulm commented that they started a little slow but found that next gear with their defensive pressure and he felt that was the difference in the game.
The Varsity game was back and forth with neither team able to pull away. The Lady Wolves went into the half up 32-17 before closing the game out with a 52-40 victory.
We came out a little flat, which could have been attributed to the night before, but we have to be ready to go regardless. We did the things we needed to do to close out the game and converted on the offensive end when we needed to extend the lead.
The Lady Wolves travel to Southeast on Thursday and have a home game versus Tongue River on Saturday. Come out and support your Moorcroft Wolves!
