To kick off the basketball season, the Wolves traveled to Burns to play in the Burns Winter classic. This is a lot of basketball in three days with seven games in that time; varsity played four and the junior varsity played three.
The junior varsity boys would start off the weekend for the Wolves, battling against the JV Burns Broncs. The Wolves would come up short in this contest, losing 41-27.
Next, the varsity would play the Broncs, this would turn into a good little back and forth game. Both teams battled hard, but in the end, the Broncs would prevail over the Wolves, 49-35.
Friday would begin with an early day for the Wolves after a late night. The Varsity Wolves would take on Pine Bluffs; Wolves started off strong against the Hornets but could not keep the momentum in their favor. Wolves would lose, 72-31.
The next varsity game would be against a very tough Wheatland team. The Wolves kept working on their game during this contest. Wolves would lose, 65-23.
The JV would get another chance on the floor later that evening. Little Snake River and the Wolves JV teams would have a good match up with a lot of good experience for the younger members of both teams. The Rattlers would get the best of the Wolves, though, 39-36.
Saturday would wrap up the weekend for the Wolves as both teams played the Lingle-Fort Laramie Doggers. The Wolves’ JV would start the morning off with a great match up for our younger players, finding success early and often against Doggers, prevailing, 56-18.
The varsity would battle with the Doggers for the final game of the weekend. The Doggers had some good tricks up their sleeves and due to some injuries and issues that rattled the Wolves for a good chunk of the game, the Doggers would keep the Wolves down, winning 54-42.
Overall the Wolves at all levels had a lot of good learning experiences. They will continue to grow as this season continues. Next games for the Wolves are Thursday, December 19 in Edgemont, SD! Girls start the games off at 4 p.m. with JV followed by JV Boys, Varsity Girls and Varsity Boys.
