Wolves' football awards banquet

The 2019 Moorcroft Junior High and High School football banquet and awards ceremony was held Tuesday night in the high school gymnasium. A nice meal was provided along with a slide show by Kellie Allison, followed by the recognition of players and a few special awards.

Recognition and awards were presented by Coaches Travis Santistevan, Jade Keffeler, Matt Albertson, Tommy Schlater and Steven Allred.

The junior high athletes, who consisted of sixth, seventh and eighth graders, were all presented with their Junior High Letter Awards. This big bunch consisted of 27 players who all worked hard and continued to improve all season.

After the 26 high school players were recognized, a few were presented with an award for their outstanding contributions and hard work on and off the field.

Rookie of the Year: Dakota Tobin

This player earned his spot by stepping up to take on a difficult role on any team – the offensive line. Dakota was only rotated out one time and he didn’t like that very well so he continued to work hard and made sure he never left the field again.

Most Improved: Randy Peters

This young man has made tremendous strides for our football program from the beginning of the season to the end. Randy came every day to practice, ready to learn more about football and improve himself and his teammates.

He matured into his role on this team and always did his best at what was asked of him, whether that be stepping up to the plate on offense and running the ball or reading a play on defense and making a tackle. His hard work and dedication has led him to becoming the most improved player on our football team this year.

The Wolf Award: Tucker Cook

This young man went above and beyond helping the team out no matter the task. Tucker would always ask if we needed anything done from carrying footballs, putting equipment away, cleaning up, loading and unloading the bus and much more. Nothing was too big or small and he was always willing to help out.

Wolf Pack Award: Zane Linder

The winner of this award has proven himself as a leader on and off the field. Zane has taken action in holding not only himself accountable but also his teammates for their actions. This young man came to practice every day with a positive attitude and was always ready to work hard.

Comeback Player Award: Hunter Garoutte

Unfortunately for Hunter, his season was cut very short last year with an injury, but he worked hard through his recovery process to make sure he was ready for this season. After a week of practice, something wasn’t feeling right, so some extra therapy with Joanna and he was good as new and never looked back. Hunter played tough all season and was a huge asset to the team.

The Wolf Award: Mica Herrera

This person was very energetic, enthusiastic and willing to do whatever was asked of him. Mica was our hype guy all year and could always pump up the team.

Swiss Army Knife: Parker Seeley

Talk about an unselfish teammate, this young man took it upon himself to help the team no matter what position he was put in. Seeley started out playing wide receiver, then he played full back, same game, he said ‘give me a lineman number and I will play it!’ All in the back of his mind knowing he was also back-up quarter back and he punted for us also. Like a Swiss army knife, he was up to the task of anything and any position, something he was really appreciated for this season.

Most Valued Player: Rowdy Pfeil

Rowdy rushed for 1196 yards and made 13 touchdowns this season; he also had over 1262 yards in all purpose yards. He was tied for top defensive points on the team with Parker Schlater and was tenth overall in 2a for defensive points with 112.

All Conference and All State awards will be presented after the state meeting.
