Moorcroft Police Report

October 14-20

On October 14, police were notified of a fire alarm going off at a business in town. Officer requested dispatch to page for the fire department and the officer arrived on scene and checked the building for any indication of a fire. Neither officer nor fire department could find any sign of fire. Nothing further.

On October 14, police were contacted in reference to a missing juvenile. Three juveniles left the school campus for lunch together and only two returned to the school. Officers with the assistance of Gillette Police Department were able to locate the juvenile in Gillette with a family member. Officers contacted the juvenile’s parents and gave them the information on where their child was.

On October 14, police were contacted in reference to two juveniles smoking in the bathroom of the Moorcroft High School. During the investigation, one of the juveniles was found to have prescription drugs not belonging to them in their locker, while the other was found to have JUUL and cigarettes. Both juveniles were cited for minor in possession.

On October 18, Police were sent a video via the Moorcroft PD Facebook page Messenger account, of a female throwing a small kitten out of the window of a vehicle along with a bag of food. The person who sent the video also gave the officer the name of the female who threw the kitten and the officer was able to locate her at the home of her sister. Officer spoke with the suspect and her friend that took the video and advised them of the Cruelty to Animals statute and the possible consequences for their actions. Both seemed to show genuine remorse for what they had done. The kitten was uninjured and picked up by a resident who was able to find the kitten a good home so neither of the females was charged.

On October 19, police were contacted in reference to a possible interference with custody. Officer spoke with a mother who stated that they wanted their child picked up from their grandmother’s home by a cousin and the grandmother was refusing to release the child. After speaking with the mother, grandmother and the child the decision was made, by the mother, to let the child remain at the home of the grandmother.
