The Voice of the Community Since 1909, Serving Moorcroft and Pine Haven, Wyoming
The Moorcroft Interfaith Community (MIC) announced that it offered a hand up to fifty individuals, including 22 adults and 28 children in the month of August and 53 individuals, (25 adults and 28 children) during the month of September through the MIC Food Pantry.
The MIC Food Pantry, which is currently housed at First Presbyterian Church Moorcroft, 100 S Belle Fourche Ave, is open from 4 to 6 p.m. on the first and third Thursdays of the month or by appointment. This pantry is in addition to the Crook County Senior Services Pantry located next to Sharon’s Home Health and is open 9:30 to 12:30 the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month.
“Our goal,” says MIC President, Rev. Monte Reichenberg, “is to supplement the Senior Services food pantry by offering additional days and times that Crook County residents and those living in nearby Crook County can receive food assistance.”
“According to statistics, Crook County is one of the state leaders in food insecurity,” Reichenberg continues, “and we want to change that.”
Anyone in the county or in communities nearby is welcome to come to the pantry to pick up food items. Or they can call 217-251-1182; email [email protected] to make an appointment for another day and time if Thursdays don’t work for them.
Additionally, the MIC operates the Summer Totes of Hope Program which provides food for kids during the summer when Blessings in a Back Pack are not available. The Totes of Hope program, which has distribution locations at West Texas Trail Museum, Moorcroft Library and First Presbyterian Church, provided food and snacks for 187 kids over the course of the summer.
The Totes of Hope will remain open throughout the 2019-2020 school year. Youth needing food assistance are welcome to come to any of the three organizations above during regular business hours and get food.
The MIC Food Pantry and Totes of Hope are funded by donations from member churches, individuals and local businesses. If you would like to help provide food assistance for those in need you may write a check to MIC, P.O. Box 1056, Moorcroft, WY 82721 and note Totes of Hope for Food Pantry in the footnote.
