The Voice of the Community Since 1909, Serving Moorcroft and Pine Haven, Wyoming
In 1990, the Piatigorsky Foundation, in memory of renowned Russian cellist Gregor Piatigorsky, came into existence to introduce a taste of classical music, performed by prominent artists, to communities throughout the nation. Through the efforts of MHS/MK8 music teacher Nathan Towell and the Wyoming Arts Council, two such artists and their music came to MHS last Thursday.
Students and teachers listened attentively as professionals, clarinetist Katsuya Yuasa and pianist Mary Au played together and solo, sharing a few harmonious pieces and discussing with the audience what they thought of when they heard music with a more cacophonous sound. Yuasa and Au demonstrated that there are myriad more dimensions to music than that played on the radio.
