Alternative Program students visit traveling Genghis Khan exhibit

ver wonder who the greatest empire builder of the world was? The students in the Alternative Program at Hulett are studying just that, by comparing many leaders throughout history including Attila the Hun, Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar and Genghis Khan, to name a few.

While researching these greats, one student came across a traveling exhibit of Genghis Khan in Bozeman, Montana featuring over 200 artifacts from the 13th century Mongolian Empire. Aside from controlling the largest land mass empire the world has ever seen, the Mongolians, under the rule of Genghis Khan, were responsible for a number of things we still see throughout the world today, such as passports, a fair tax system and religious tolerance as well as the first hamburger.

Being able to see these artifacts first hand helped to not only reinforce the information the students were learning about the Mongolian achievements, advancements and lifestyle at this time-period, but also provided the students with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit this traveling exhibit.

Some of the artifacts dated back to the 1200s. There were also reproductions from the 1700-1800s. Overall, the students enjoyed the quick trip there and back, and were amazed at the vast amount of innovations from the reign of Genghis Khan that we still see today.
