The Voice of the Community Since 1909, Serving Moorcroft and Pine Haven, Wyoming
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) Aubry Turnbough, a former native of Moorcroft, addressed the Town Council at Monday night’s meeting to ask their opinion on allowing her to rent a room and open an animal clinic at the MTC in the future.
Turnbough admitted that she does not yet have the details finalized; however, after considering the Moorcroft Town Center, “We have this wonderful community center that probably has some room available and I could use it as a meeting ground for people one night or afternoon a week.”
The doctor is currently working with Animal Medical Center in Gillette. She explained that the center is assisting her in this endeavor by furthering her clinical training as well as introducing her to the business administration side of running a clinic.
After listening to Turnbough’s request for a room for her business, the council asked for a business plan including her considered method of disposal of euthanized animals and her plans for treating large animal or livestock. She agreed to bring said proposal to the next meeting.
The governing body expressed their approval of the idea of a veterinarian in town. “I think it’s actually a great idea,” said Councilman Paul Smoot.
The MTC Committee and Mayor Dick Claar have gone so far as choosing the room that would best serve the doctor’s purpose if her plan comes to fruition. “It would benefit the town. I think that everyone who has an animal would take advantage of this service,” Claar said.
At this time, according to Turnbough, there is only one veterinarian in Crook County who operates in Sundance and a mobile service that travels from Gillette occasionally. “It is not my intention to take business away [from them], but only to help service the people of Moorcroft and Crook County better,” she said.
