The Wolves faced the number four ranked Burns Broncs on Friday, September 13. The Broncs came into Moorcroft with a 1-0 record after beating the Wright Panthers in the first week action and the Wolves were trying to regroup after a loss to the Tongue River Eagles.
The Broncs started off quickly, scoring three unanswered touchdowns in the first quarter, and the Wolves saw themselves down 20-0 at the end of one. The second quarter was a little different with the Wolves able to find the end zone twice and the Broncs finding it one more time, making the half time score 26-14.
It was a battle the rest of the game, both teams going back and forth, each team scoring in the third quarter; making the game 32-22 in favor of the Broncs.
After halftime, the Wolves didn’t shut down, they rose up to the challenge and shut out the Broncs in the fourth quarter. The Wolves were able to score, bringing the game within four points.
The Wolves’ defense was not allowing the Broncs to go anywhere; five minutes to go, the Wolves stopped them in the end zone for a safety. With the score tied 32-32 and time left on the clock, the Wolves had a chance to take the lead and they did. The Wolves would score one more time, making the final score the 38-32 Wolves over the Broncs.
Coach Santistevan had this to say about the team performance: “We got down early and we didn’t let that keep us down. We battled back in a great game and never gave up until the final horn sound.”
This is something the team is striving to do: play hardnose football for four quarters, and that’s exactly what they did. The Wolves will travel to Thermopolis this next Friday to take on the Bobcats. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
