Moorcroft Police Report

July 29 - August 4

On August 1, police received a warrant for the arrest of an individual who was known to be staying at the Cozy Motel. Officer made contact with the subject at the motel. Officer placed the individual under arrest and transported to Crook County Detention center without incident.

On August 2, police were contacted in reference to a traffic crash at Coffee Cup Fuel Stop. Officer arrived on scene and took information from the drivers. No citations were issued. Officer filled out traffic crash report.

On August 2, police returned a pair of glasses to a motorcycle driver who had lost them while riding on North Yellowstone.

On August 2, police were requested to come look at some damage to the building of a local business. Officer arrived and spoke with the business owner about the damage. Pictures were taken.

On August 3, police received a report of a motorcycle down near the car wash. Upon arrival, bike was up and driver was walking around uninjured. Driver was staying at a motel in town. Driver was able to get to his motel and rest for the evening.

On August 4, police were contacted by an employee at Coffee Cup Fuel Stop who stated there was a little girl there who was all alone. With the help of several individuals and CCFS employees the child’s parents were located and reunited. Child had left the home while the mother was in bed asleep.

August 5 - 11

On August 5, police were contacted to do vehicle unlock for someone who had accidently locked their keys inside their vehicle, with their infant child also inside. The officer, with assistance from a family member and the police clerk, was able to get the unlock kit inside the door, but was unable to get the doors to unlock. After multiple attempts, it was decided that breaking a window to gain access was necessary due to the child being inside the vehicle. Once window was broken, officer was able to grab the keys and unlock the vehicle so the parent could get the child out. Nothing further.

On August 6, police clerk gave Emergency Fund assistance to a traveler in need.

On August 7, during a routine traffic stop the driver (a minor) was subsequently cited for Driving Outside of I2C Restrictions, Minor in Possession of Tobacco and Possession of a Controlled Substance – plant form less than 3 ounces. Also during the same traffic stop two passengers were also cited. One for Minor in Possession of Tobacco, the other for not wearing a seatbelt.

On August 9, police received reports of an explosion sound. Police checked multiple areas of town and spoke with witnesses but were unable to locate the cause of the sound.

On August 10, police were contacted in reference to a man who was stating he had been kidnapped. Officer arrived on scene and began taking the man’s statement. Dispatch contacted the officer advising a woman called because her husband (who has dementia) was missing from her vehicle at the Post Office. It was decided to contact EMS as the man wanted to go to the hospital and refused to leave with his wife and son. EMS transported to Sundance hospital. Nothing further.

On August 11, police observed a truck with its hood up stopped along Yellowstone Avenue. When stopping to assist the driver, the driver had left the vehicle. Once officer made contact with the individual he became very uncooperative. Police arrested the individual for Interference with a Police Officer, Driving Under Suspension and Open Container.

On August 11, police were notified of a dog at large. Officer was able to make contact with the owner and advised them to keep the dog contained. Nothing further.

On August 11, police clerk gave Emergency Fund assistance to a traveler in need.
