Mystery solved at 4-H camp

4-H Summer Camp is a much anticipated event for youth in Crook and Weston Counties and this year was no exception. Over 100 youth and adult volunteers flocked to the RAM Center near Devils Tower Junction for the annual Crook-Weston County 4-H Camp. Thirty teen leaders helped the campers solve the mystery of “the stolen 4-H flag” throughout the weekend.

4-H Summer Camp began with a leadership training for teen leaders who serve as camp counselors. The group of 30 outstanding teens participated in interactive team building exercises and learned other essential camp management tools.

Campers participated in a number of educational and fun sessions including the traditional workshops of dancing, rifle, archery, while also experiencing a rappelling exercise with the Weston County Search and Rescue, making mystery foods and learning how to lift fingerprints.

Campers made s’mores at the campfire and sang traditional camp songs. Glow in the dark tag, an obstacle course, and water fight rounded out the weekend events.

Almost all the campers reported that they had fun and would come again. Camp participants listed leadership skills, life skills, and meeting new people as some of the benefits of 4-H camp.

Generous donations from local businesses, as well as volunteer help from local 4-H leaders, ensures 4-H Summer Camp is a fun, affordable experience for all youth. 4-H Educators in Crook and Weston Counties are excited to begin planning for next summer’s camp, scheduled for June 18-21, 2020.
