The Voice of the Community Since 1909, Serving Moorcroft and Pine Haven, Wyoming
Darlene Coder of Compass Trading in Hulett approached the chambers of Hulett, Sundance and Moorcroft several months ago to discuss a countywide yard sale weekend called the Country Junkin' Weekend. This tour of listed yard sales took place last Friday through Sunday throughout the county.
Moorcroft's Gifts, Thrifts and Ifts, West Texas Trails Museum, Starfish Second Hand Store and the senior center as well as a few private residences participated, with the museum offering lunch for the public each day.
Neal Gray of Gifts, Thrifts and Ifts said, "I think the Junk Tour went very well. A lot of people made the tour and there was a lot of community involvement. [It was a] good event."
The West Texas Museum hosted over 100 people over the weekend, according to Cynthia Clonch, "Some shopped. Some dined. Some toured the museum. Some did all three!"
She noted that their best days of the weekend were Friday and Saturday. While Sunday was not as busy, guests still sat down to eat, and, "People simply enjoyed visiting while they ate lunch."
Clonch voiced her appreciation for the event, "It went very well considering it is the first year; I believe it will catch on as an annual event. People enjoyed rummaging through the items and finding a bargain or a treasure. I will definitely do this again next year. It was a blast!"
MTC board chair Nancy Feehan reported that the Starfish participated Friday and Saturday and sold furniture and clothing, bringing in $1000 to the town coffers. "We got rid of a lot of stuff and we've got more stuff to put out," she said.
