The week of April 23 to 27 was a challenge met full on by the Wolves. Even with all the freshman and sophomores missing on Tuesday for WYTOPP testing and more gone during Friday and Saturday’s meets, for the Band trip to Florida, the Wolves howled victory at the end of the week.
On Tuesday April 23, the Wolves traveled to Belle Fourche for the Northern Hills Qualifier. Grayson Osmon earned gold in the 100 meter dash with the time of 11.59, as well as the 200 meter dash with the time of 23.74 seconds.
April Miller scored a point for the team, placing eighth in the 100 meter dash with the time of 14.08. In the 800 meter dash, Hailey Jones took first place with the time of 2:22.20; and Jordan Jones took fifth place with the time of 2:40.85. Jordan then won the 1600 meter run with the time of 5:49.83.
The 4 x 100 meter relay team of Amanda Otto, April Miller, Marla Sproul and Hailey Jones took fifth place with a time of 56.52. The sprint medley team of Mandy, April, Jordan and Hailey took first place and pre-qualified for state competition for their effort.
On Friday April 26, the Wolves went to Wright for the Scott Hardy Memorial Invite and wowed the crowd. Grayson took first place in the 100 meter dash with the time of 10.95, first place in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.66 and third place in the 300 hurdles with the time of 44.92.
Jordan Jones took first in the 800 meter dash with the time of 2:42.00 and second place in the 300 hurdles with the time of 57.07. Amasa Gerstner took seventh place in the 1600 meter run with a time of 7:52.00.
Hailey Jones took first place in the 200 meter dash with the time of 27.56 and first in the 400 meter dash with the time of 1:02.43. Grayson and Jordan ran the 300 hurdles and Hailey ran the 200 meter “just for giggles”, never having competed in these events in high school. Hailey qualified for state in the 200.
On Saturday April 27, the Wolves ventured to Sturgis for the long-anticipated Black Hills Track Classic. Grayson took seventh place in the 200 Meter with the time of 23.57.
Hailey took first in the 800 meter dash with the time of 2:20.89 and first in the 1600 meter run with the time of 5:13.05, shattering the existing 1600 meter record by 17 seconds. Grayson broke the 200 meter record that was set in 1989. Hailey broke the 800 meter record that was set in 2006 and the 1600 meter that was set in 1995.
On Friday May 3, the Wolves will compete in their final regular season meet in Sundance for the Bulldog Invite. Regional competition is in Sheridan on May 10 and 11. State competition is May 16 -18 in Casper.
