Moorcroft Chief of Police Doug Lundborg has been talking to the WYDOT about the increased danger to motorists and pedestrians along Highway 14 north of Moorcroft.
His concerns have been validated by a study conducted by a state highway safety report examining the number of automobile crashes from 2014 to 2018 in the Moorcroft area and have found the area of highway 14 immediately north of town has more crashes and of more severity than the state average.
As a result, WYDOT will be changing speed signage in the area soon. School bus stop signage has already been installed south of the "blind" hill, making drivers aware of the possible danger to children and stopped vehicles as they head north.
While the section from I90 to the north side of the First Southern Baptist Church approach will remain 30 mph, the speed from that approach to north of Heritage Lane will changed to 45 mph. A 65 mph zone will follow from north of Heritage Lane for a short period, leading into the full 70 mph speed.
