Wolves wrestle their way to the top

The Wolves wrestling team traveled to Saratoga this past weekend to wrestle in the Carbon County Invite, where they met up with 17 other schools from across Wyoming in search of what their competition will be in two weeks at the High School state tournament. It was tough competition and they had to fight their way to the finish.

The Wolves came out on top, winning the tournament overall with having six in the finals and many placers. Individual results were as follows.

Champions: 138 Parker Seeley pinned his way to the finals where he met up with Lochlyn Teichert of Cokeville and dominated his match, winning by decision, 7-1 to take the championship. 182 Rowdy Pfeil also pinned his way into the finals where he met up with Bentley Johnson of Cokeville. The match was tough and a battle the whole way through with Rowdy winning by decision, 6-2.

Second Place: 106 Sean Buckmiller pinned his way into the finals where he battled through the whole six minutes, but came up short, losing by decision, 13-7 to place second; 132 Caleb Cook made it into the finals where he met up with Dawson Schramm of Kemmerer. There, he put up a good fight, but got caught and lost by fall; 160 Dekken Mayer had the finals match of the tournament where he met up with Cokeville's Devan Moody that went seven periods, ending with the ultimate tie breaker.

The whole match was a battle with many scrambles and kept everyone on the edge of their seat. The first period ended 0-0.

The second period, Moody picked down and scored an escape ending the period, 1-0, Cokeville. The third period, Mayer picked down and scored an escape making the score 1-1 to end the third period.

Going into the first overtime, sudden death, they started in the neutral position and the minute period ended again with no one scoring, still being 1-1. The second and third overtimes, each had 30 seconds to score with neither being able to secure an escape or reversal.

The last overtime, which is the ultimate tie breaker, Moody picked down and had 30 seconds to escape. Mayer put up a huge fight holding Moody to the mat for the first 15 seconds.

The last 15 seconds Mayer nearly scored near fall but Moody scrambled out to score a reversal with six seconds left, ending the match, 3-1. 195 Parker Schlater eased his way into the finals where he went two periods of pure scrambling but came up short and lost by fall to place second.

Fourth Place: 113 Mica Herrera

Fifth Place: 145 Darrian Black, 152 Hunter Garoutte, 170 Wyatt Peters.

The Wolves ended the tournament strong, fighting Pinedale the whole way for the team championship. They took first with 208 team points, followed by 3A Pinedale with 203 and 2A Kemmereer with 182.5 team points. High scorers for the Wolves were Parker Seeley with 32 followed by Rowdy Pfeil with 28 and Sean Buckmiller with 24.

Next up for the Wolves is the 2A East Regional Tournament this Saturday in Wright.
