On Friday night, the Lady Wolves hosted the Southeast Cyclones.
Southeast started fast, ending with a 12-5 first quarter lead. The Wolves fought back and went into the half down 30-23.
The contest continued the same in the second half. The Wolves weren’t able to overcome the Cyclones and dropped the game, 53-41.
I didn’t think that we came out ready to play in the first quarter. We had a good scouting report on what we wanted to do and just weren’t able to execute some of those things. We got into early foul trouble and that had an effect, but overall, we have to do a better job for all four quarters.
On Saturday afternoon, the Tigers from Lusk came to Moorcroft for a very entertaining game. The Wolves got off to the start they wanted and continued into the second quarter and led 28-20 at the half.
We knew Lusk would make adjustments and come out in the second half, which they did. After a back and forth third quarter, the Wolves held a slim lead of 38-33.
Lusk played hard in the fourth quarter and took a 47-40 lead with 1:20 to go. The Wolves didn’t quit and kept fighting. The Wolves found themselves down 2 with 7 seconds to go.
The Wolves took the ball the length of the floor and hit the game winning three with no time left on the clock for an exciting 54-53 win.
It was unfortunate that we gave up the lead; however, when we were down, our kids didn’t quit. We picked up the defensive intensity, got the turnovers we needed and converted them for the win.
I was really proud of how we responded on Saturday. Even when we got down and it didn’t look great, the girls stuck together and believed they could win. It was a great game and exciting win.
