Lady Wolves come out fighting

The Moorcroft Lady Wolves played Upton on January 4 and won, 57-33. They followed with another triumph on January 5, winning against Hulett with a score of 59-17.

The team returned to action this week for the West River Tournament in South Dakota. Moorcroft took on Oelrichs in their first game.

After a slow three minutes, the Wolves found their stride and won the game 54-28. Our full court pressure was good and that lead to turnovers that we are able to convert on the other end. All of our varsity girls saw good playing time and it was a good team win.

Moorcroft’s next opponent in the semifinal game was Edgemont. Edgemont jumped out to an early lead and went into half ahead, 26-18.

The Wolves stormed back in the second half and over the course of the last three minutes saw five different lead changes. Moorcroft came up short losing 48-45.

We didn’t come out in the first half like we needed to. I don’t know if we were overconfident or just not ready to go but we fell behind early and had to battle back. We had our opportunities and just didn’t convert.

In the third place game, Moorcroft’s opponent was the Newell Irrigators. We knew going in that Newell had good size and had quick guards.

The game was back and forth with neither team gaining any separation. Moorcroft took a 26-24 lead into the half, they fell behind in the third quarter by five, but never stopped fighting. The Wolves outscored Newell 19-5 in the fourth quarter to win the game, 58-47.

After a tough loss on Friday night, I was concerned with how the girls would bounce back, but they played hard, cleaned up some of the issues we had the previous night and showed a lot of character with the way they played over a tough Newell team. I couldn’t have been happier with how they responded.

The Wolves travel to Big Horn for their first conference game on Friday, January 18 and then to Wright on Saturday. Come out and support your Moorcroft Wolves!
