The year of 2020 has been crazy for the students at Moorcroft High School. The MHS students celebrated their homecoming by having many activities during and after school during the week of October 5-9. Monday, the student council put together a drive-in movie theater. The Lady Wolves won both home matches this weekend, both with the sweep. The Wolves raised money for breast cancer for their Pink Day versus Pine Bluffs. They honored Sonya Duvall from Sundance, who is fighting breast cancer. The scores from the game were Moorcroft 3 Pine Bluffs 0 (25-21, 25-9, 25-13). The Wolves played host to the Pine Bluffs Hornets this past Friday. The Wolves were missing some key players due to injuries that have happened throughout the year, so the pack took the field with younger players stepping up and battling for the team. On Friday night, the Moorcroft Wolves traveled over to Basin to battle the Riverside Rebels. It was a hard-fought battle with the pack starting the game by scoring on a 12-yard pass from Zane Linder to Lane Wood. Linder ran another one in from four yards out to give the Wolves a 12-0 lead early on in the game, but Riverside settled into their offense and fought their way back into the game. The Lady Wolves had two close matches last week. They travelled to Lusk and defeated Niobrara County in five sets, Moorcroft 3 Niobrara County 2 (21-25, 25-15, 22-25, 25-20, 15-12). The Doggers struck quickly against the Wolves defense, but the pack answered the score with one of their own from Hunter Garoutte. On Friday night, the Moorcroft Wolves traveled to Yoder to battle the #1 Southeast Cyclones. Depleted by injuries, the Wolves had a tough matchup and lost 70-22. The Wolf pups took on Sage Valley at home Thursday night in a close, fast game. The Pups carried a tight lead throughout the match until the last two minutes of the last quarter, when the opposing team scored a touchdown. On Friday evening, the 2-0 Moorcroft Wolves welcomed the 2-0 Lusk Tigers to town for a battle of the undefeated teams. The first quarter was a struggle for both teams as Lusk fumbled the ball on a number of occasions and Moorcroft could not capitalize off the turnovers, which resulted in a tie ball game after one quarter. Friday, September 4, the Wolves embraced the new 2020 season with COVID-19 regulations as they hosted the Greybull Buffaloes. The Moorcroft High School Football team volunteered to clean the pasture area around the municipal landfill last Thursday morning. The Wolves worked for several hours before going home around 11 a.m. to a well-deserved lunch. After months of quarantine and social distancing, the Moorcroft High School wrestling team was able to honor their best players and say farewell to their graduated seniors Thursday evening with a picnic at Robinson Park followed by an awards ceremony.
