    The Harwood Baseball Field on Pine Haven’s Industrial Drive underwent a routine audit (inspection) recently by a representative of the Wyoming State Parks agency, through which the Department of Revenue bestowed $12,636 to the town. The agency cited several points of noncompliance that needed to be fixed, including conspicuous signage to attribute funding to the Land and Water Conservation Fund, bleachers moved to a more appropriate area, dilapidated concession stands removed and acceptable standard of maintenance (i.e. grass).     The junior high Wolves wrestling team wrestled their district tournament on Friday, December 17 in Wright. They took 18 wrestlers, placed 11 and placed first as a team with 173 points over second place Sundance and third place Upton.     The Wolves wrestling team traveled to Wright this past Saturday to wrestle in the Christmas Duals, competing against Natrona County, Team X - a team made up of wrestlers from different teams, Thunder Basin and Wright.     On Friday night, the Lady Wolves traveled to Glenrock to take on the Herders. The Junior Varsity Team took the floor first and set the tone for the evening. Early on, neither team was able to put much distance between the other, but in the second half, the Lady Wolves broke the game open. With a combination of good defense and turning steals into points on the other end, Moorcroft was able to secure the 37-16 victory.     On Friday, the Wolves boys basketball team traveled to Glenrock to take on the Herders. The junior varsity team played just a half of a game because of too few players. The boys played well and won the half, 21-18. Varsity played a close game throughout. After the first quarter, the score was tied at 6; we played really tough defense and just couldn’t get our offense going.     The Wolves wrestling team traveled to Lusk this past Friday to wrestle in the Tiger Invitational. Bad weather and bad roads caused a few teams to back out last minute, but six teams made the trip and the full day of wrestling. Moorcroft’s team consists of 33 wrestlers this year, led by six seniors.     On Thursday, the Moorcroft Wolves Boys’ Basketball Team opened their season on the road at the Burns Winter Classic basketball tournament. The boys’ first game was against the Burns Broncs. The Broncs jumped out early and led 22-6 after the first quarter. They widened that lead and took a 40-11 halftime lead. The Broncs cruised to a 70-24 victory. They were long and athletic and returning a lot of players with varsity experience, we struggled with their pressure and turned the ball over way too much to make this game competitive.     The Lady Wolves opened their season on the road at the Burns Tournament. Their first opponent out was the Lady Broncs from Burns. Burns got out to a small lead to start the game, but the Wolves responded and found themselves ahead 21-18 going into the half; neither team was able to gain ground in the second half and Moorcroft was able to come out with the 55-52 victory.     The Moorcroft Lady Wolves placed fourth at the state tournament last weekend. The Lady Wolves haven't been to state since 1987 and they have never placed at the state tournament in school history. We were very happy with the success of the weekend as well as our effort.     The Moorcroft Cross Country scheduled meets were at Newcastle, Hardin, MT, Belle Fourche, SD, Ethete Pre State, Sheridan, Moorcroft (Pine Haven), Wheatland, Glenrock.     The Moorcroft Wolves wrapped up their football season when they traveled down to Pine Bluffs on Friday night to battle the Hornets. The Hornets are one of the best teams in the state and they proved it.     Former MHS teacher and coach, Wally Johnson, was inducted as an athlete into the South Dakota Sports Hall of Fame on September 26, 2021 in the Sioux Falls Convention Center. Johnson was one of the best multi-sports athletes in the history of Aberdeen Central and in college played basketball and ran track at Northern State.     On Friday night, the Moorcroft Wolves voyaged south to Niobrara County to battle the Tigers of Lusk. It was difficult for the Wolves to get a complete drive going as they would move the ball but couldn’t quite finish off the drive.
