On Tuesday, the Lady Wolves traveled to Hot Springs, SD for the first round of the West River Tournament. The Wolves faced off against the home team, the Hot Springs Bison. Moorcroft got off to a slow start in the first half and found themselves down, 32-15 to start the third quarter. The Wolves fought back and were able to cut the lead to eight midway into the fourth quarter, but that is as close as they came and they ended up losing the game, 51-38. I really thought that our slow start hurt us because we were then expending more energy...
The Wolves Boys Basketball team ran up against very good competition this past weekend and earned their fourth place finish in the West River Tournament. We have a solid rotation that allows for players to be moved around to bring success to many different areas of the court and leaders in all grades who push the competition in practice; these leaders have been asked to step it up even more. We played three very tough opponents with Olerichs, Hot Springs and Upton, coming away with a win over Olerichs. We have a big week with New Castle and...
It was really good competition this weekend for the wrestling team. We wrestled three days this weekend in Miles City, MT. Thursday was a mixer type tournament with the coaches pairing matches for the wrestlers and letting them wrestle. Most of the athletes got one match and some even got two. We started off the weekend by wrestling Billings West High School and we won the majority of our matches, which is a great feat since Billings West is a Class A school in Montana. On Friday and Saturday, there were 30 teams from Wyoming, North Dakota,...
On Friday, the Lady Wolves hosted the Herders from Glenrock. The first quarter didn't see much scoring with the quarter ending in a 4-4 tie score. The Wolves lost some ground in the second quarter and found themselves down, 24-21 going into the half. We made some adjustments at halftime and really wanted to focus on our defense and keeping our defender in front of us. Neither team was able to gain any ground before the Lady Wolves took advantage in the fourth quarter. The Wolves scored 21...

On Thursday, the Lady Wolves traveled to Burns to open their season at the Burns Tournament. Their first opponent was Arvada, from Denver, CO. The Lady Wolves got off to a slow start, but quickly found their stride and took a 38-8 lead into the half. The second half was much of the same thing and the Wolves were able to get their first victory of the season with a final score of 68-18. We were really excited to start the season and we didn’t shoot it very well from the outside, but that is part of the energy of a new season and first game. W...
The boys played four great games against opponents they would not usually see during the season as they took on Arvada, Southeast, Lingle and Douglas. The boys beat Arvada the first night, then came up short in the other three games, against very good opponents. This team is made up of a number of players who have years of experience and some with very little, but they all have great work ethic and no quit. Every year is a learning process, especially with a new coach, but there is a lot of continuity with what Coach Merchen had put in the...
On Friday, December 9, the Lady Wolf Pups battled it out against Newcastle. The seventh grade team started out in an intense game, going point for point. The Wolf pups took a solid lead and by half-time, they were up by almost ten points. The seventh graders ended up defeating the Doggies 20-15. The girls played as a team and worked together very well. The girls have a good chance to do well at the upcoming districts. The eighth grade athletes had a bit of a tough match up against Newcastle, but they fought hard, playing very well as a team....
Kyler Smith, Chaz Dewey and Dane Connally....
The junior high Lady Wolves faced the Hulett Red Devils last Tuesday, losing 8-11. Sixth grader Tallie Thomas stepped up and filled a starting role due to others being out sick and she played with such heart and hustle the entire time she was in. The eighth grade did not have any games last week because Hulett does not have the numbers and the Thursday game was postponed to a later date that has not been determined yet. Monday, November 21, the Moorcroft Wolves faced the Upton Bobcats at home. There was a sixth, seventh and eighth grade game...
Tuesday, November 8, the Lady Wolves took on the Sundance Lady Bulldogs in a district junior high matchup at home. The games started with a half game for the sixth graders and the team was victorious in this game, defeating the Bulldogs 14-8. Following this match-up, the seventh grade Wolves fought to defeat the bulldogs, but fell short, losing by only one point. The score was 12-13. Continuing the fight, the eighth grade Lady Wolves rose to the challenge and defeated the Bulldogs, 25-24, winning the game on a made free throw by Kimber...
The Lady Wolves battled hard at regionals. They first saw #3 Douglas and fell short in five sets with the scores of Douglas 3 Moorcroft 2 (25-17, 25-23, 15-25, 22-25, 25-7). We played great volleyball against Douglas. We had a slow start, but stepped up and played great defense. We worked together and played as a team. It was a close match and it was great to see the girls step up and play hard. The next day, we saw Torrington and got the sweep in three sets, winning Moorcroft 3 Torrington 0...
It was an awesome game! The boys were ready to play as hard as ever, and they did just that. It was an awesome way to end the season and the high school careers for our seniors. Our O-line did a great job being led by Kyler Smith and Dane Connally and our backs played lights out being led by James Long and Richie Allison. It was an awesome game all around for these boys! We ended the game with a score of Moorcroft 72, Guernsey 6. It is also a great way to start next year on a very positive...
The Wolves traveled to Ethete for the State Cross Country Championships on Saturday, October 22. Lilly Barnum and Katelynn Blakeman are the two senior athletes on the team and put on a great show. The Wolves faced some tough competition over the weekend, but still stepped up and competed. First, we played #1 in our conference, Buffalo, with the scores of Buffalo 3 Moorcroft 1 (22-25, 25-23, 27-25, 25-21). I was impressed with our defense this game; we had some great hustle plays and worked hard with our blocking and our back row. Next, we saw the #1 team in the south, Wheatland, with a match just about as close as it gets, Wheatland 3 Moorcroft 2 (23-25, 25-16, 25-13, 23-25, 18-16). We...

The athletes all did very well this weekend; we are so close to getting everything put together. We had a lot of young guys step up and play their butts off. Dane Connally had an outstanding day on the offensive side of the ball as well as in his amazing kicking game. A couple of mistakes here and there really made us shoot ourselves in the foot and those all added up to being big deals at the end of the game. I am still and always will be so proud of this team. We ended the game with a score of Wright 26, Moorcroft 6....
Our annual Block Out Breast Cancer fundraiser was a success. We faced Newcastle at home and raised money for the breast cancer foundation by raising money for each block we received, as well as having a silent auction. We had eight blocks total for the day. We battled against Newcastle at home with the scores of Newcastle 3 Moorcroft 1 – 25-20, 25-21, 19-25, 25-19. We had great moments and were hustling and quick on defense, but we didn't seem to stay consistent at the net in the end; this is wh...
The Lady Wolves played the other teams in the Crook County last week, seeing Hulett and Sundance. We are now 14-11 overall. Against Hulett, we lost, Hulett 3 Moorcroft 1 (25-19, 25-18, 20-25, 25-19). We didn’t have our best night and Hulett took advantage of this by staying consistent throughout the match. They have a scrappy team who showed up and played very well. The next day, we were on the road again to Sundance and rebounded quickly by sweeping Sundance with the win in three sets, Moorcroft 3 Sundance 0 (25-22, 27-25, 25-18). We were h...
We played our best overall game on Friday against Lusk. The boys were playing together and working their tails off for the common goal of victory, but that's the hardest part about life: sometimes you work so hard for something, do everything right and you still don't get it. We ended the game with a score of Lusk 30, Moorcroft 18. There are a lot of lessons to be learned about life that football can teach us and these boys are learning them. I am still so proud of these boys and I am so...
The Moorcroft Lady Wolves went 2-0 for the weekend, winning against Big Horn and Tongue River. The Wolves first faced #1 in 2A Big Horn, sweeping them in three sets, Moorcroft 3 Big Horn 0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-22). As a team, we were ready to play Big Horn again this season. We saw them our first game of the season back in August and we had a tough match, losing 2-0. It was our goal to step it up this time around, keep our offense fast and stay scrappy on defense and that is exactly what we did....
The team did very well this weekend. We are still focusing on the little things and learning how to be true football players, but we are getting better each day. We ended the game with a score of Lingle-Fort Laramie 55, Moorcroft 6. We have three more games before season’s end, two at home. Come out and support the Wolves!...
The number one football team in the state, Pine Bluffs, made the long trip up to play the Wolves this last weekend. It was quickly evident that they are the number one team for a reason. However, just like the Pack we are, we never once gave up and we continued to give our best effort all night. We have a lot of work to still do, we aren't quite all firing on the same cylinder, but we are getting closer each and every day. We have come so far and I am so excited for these boys to continue to...
The Moorcroft Lady Wolves had a great weekend, going 1-1 and is now sitting with a 11-9 record and 2-1 in our conference play. On Friday, we faced the Wright Panthers, falling short in the fifth set, Wright 3 Moorcroft 2 (19-25. 25-19, 10-25, 25-22, 15-13). The girls played hard and worked together as a team, but Wright ended up taking charge at the end of the match. We tried some new rotations as a team and it was fun to see the girls get out of their comfort zone and try some new positions in a game. HayLeigh Fenner got 13 kills; Camlyn...
Conference play has started for the Moorcroft Lady Wolves. The team went 1-1 for the weekend in our 3A conference. We travelled first to #5 Buffalo and had a hard-fought battle, falling short, Buffalo 3 Moorcroft 1 (25-17, 23-25, 25-17, 25-21). We played well against Buffalo. They ran a tough offense and we worked hard on defense to stay scrappy and keep the ball in play. HayLeigh Fenner had a great night and got 11 kills as a right side hitter, which was great for our team. Camlyn Connally followed with nine kills. As a team we served 93% and...
