On Sunday, September 13, the Moorcroft Community Development Committee (MCDC) restored the Devils Tower sign located north of town on State Highway 14. Committee member Ken Newby and volunteer Paul Smoot (son of long time resident Robert Smoot) power-washed the sign to prepare it for its second restoration, the first one being 2004 when Jeff Freyholtz repainted. The sixth annual North East Wyoming Walleye Association (NEWWA) fish fry fed and entertained over 500 guests this year at Pine Haven’s Waters Park Sunday afternoon. Among the plethora of beautifully restored vintage vehicles at the 17th annual Texas Trail Cruisers Car Show this year were a few from right here in Crook County, including a 1964 Ford Mustang Coupe owned by Carolyn Holberg from Moorcroft, a romantic powder blue 1965 Ford Mustang brought in by owner Dick Conzelman of Hulett and a 1932 Ford three-window Coupe proudly shown by Bob Maynard of Sundance. The Moorcroft Area Chamber of Commerce (MACC) hosted their annual Rib Rally meal last Wednesday, serving 225 guests with a plate of ribs, beans, chips and watermelon. Co-organizer Elaine Buckmiller estimated 80% were bikers and the other 20% locals. The Moorcroft Interfaith Community hosted a massive mobile food pantry last Thursday, distributing staples, treats as well as fresh fruits and vegetables to 174 families over three hours. The 2020 Wyoming Junior Duck Stamp Program recently announced the winners of their annual art contest. From around the state, 183 young artists entered of whom three were brothers Carter, Tanner and Bridger Hatling of Pine Haven. Just over a month ago, a group of rodeo-minded Weston County residents met and decided someone needed to put together a fun activity for the kids and community to enjoy at the Weston County Fair at no cost to spectators or participants. Friday saw the first shovel of dirt cleared from the future site of the Dollar General immediately east of Pinnacle Bank on Converse Street/Highway 16. Early Tuesday morning, John and Tracy Jones began the job of placing two sets of horseshoe pits in the south yard of the MTC. The installment of the game pits was approved by the town council at a previous meeting to offer the entire community a chance to get out and enjoy a stimulating game with friends or just quiet time practicing their throw. Pine Haven volunteers came together early Saturday morning to assemble and install the town’s newest acquisition, a playground slide for youngsters to enjoy for many years to come at Waters Park.
