Edwards moved her works carefully to a better spot for the light to show the detail of the wood in the south room of the senior center. As she placed a small "flower", she explained the process that makes the delicate bloom, "You turn this while the wood is wet and [as] you can see the dark line, that's the heart of the wood and it works around that." "I want my people," Edwards gently lifted the larger piece last to set in the place of honor. "This is my pride and joy." "Bountiful generosity"...

Moorcroft businessman Neil Gray and wife Dee have been familiar faces in Moorcroft for several years, having opened the doors to their antique store eight years ago. Not all of the items Gray gathers on his travels, though, are on show. "A lot of times, there are antiques that are just beyond useable so I've got piles and piles of them at home," he says. Now, others may see only junk, but Gray sees possibilities: "Once in a while, I think of some way to make them useful. The modern day word for...
Pine Haven's resident smoke gray wild turkey hen has beaten the odds again. Her markings show up in one bird out of every 100, according to the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), and her first young black poult is considered very rare, having been born with no colored markings at all, though the wing bars are now turning into smoke. She has now produced a second all-black and is obviously quite proud of the accomplishment....

A place takes on meaning for people when they become attached to it. The sights, sounds and smells make a powerful imprint on our memories; they help us connect to an area. We develop a sense of place based on our experiences, and the shared culture and folklore associated with those experiences. Many residents of the Black Hills region identify with Devils Tower because of the sense of place that has been cultivated by using the land as a gathering spot for many generations. Modern gatherings...
