Black Hills State University released the Dean’s List for the spring 2023 semester. A total of 630 students maintained a grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher while taking at least 12 credit hours. Nine local students received their Eastern Wyoming College (EWC) College and Career Readiness Center (CCRC) HiSET diplomas in Sundance on May 22. HiSET is a high school equivalency program that includes studies and testing in language arts, reading and writing, math, social studies and science. The Moorcroft Elementary Parent Action Committee hosted the annual Science Fair Tuesday, May 9. A science fair project is one of the best learning experiences a student can undertake because it involves so much more than science; it is a great way for kids to explore their world and how things work. Most projects also involve a good deal of math and all students get an opportunity to enhance their presentation skills when they prepare their display boards and discuss their projects. Britanie Dobson, a 2020 Thunder Basin graduate, graduated on May 16 from Texas State University in San Marcos, TX. The three years that Britanie was there, she acquired a bachelor's degree in psychology and graduated with many honors, such as two honors for participating in Service Learning Courses, Alpha Chai Honor Society and graduating Cum Laude. Crook County Farm Bureau Federation annually sponsors the Ag Books for Kids contest for K-5th grade students. A book related to agriculture is paired with resources to learn about a specific ag topic. The book selected this year, "Popcorn Country", tells the story of America's favorite snack and how popcorn is planted, grown, and harvested. Staff were asked to consider students they felt showed tolerance. At their meeting on March 21, officers of Moorcroft's volunteer fire department reassessed their decision not to allow the long standing post prom party to be held in the fire station bays.
