As autumn makes itself at home with chilly weather and changing colors and the land goes dormant for the coming winter, Moorcroft’s Public Works Department is busy preparing the town for the coming cold. The crewmen have been blowing out the water from the sprinkler systems as well as the bathrooms in the four municipal parks. There is also the final fertilizing of said common areas for the season and a check of the winter equipment before snowfall. “It’s a two- to three-week process,” said department director Scott Green. The crew has already...

The scope of what we do is enormous, and we are proud to serve the American people. Whether providing service online at SSA.gov, o...
Moorcroft Mayor Ben Glenn opened a discussion with Public Works Director Scott Green and his fellow council members at last week's meeting of the town council about the possibility of removing Texas Trails Subdivision from the snow route list. His reasoning was that, like many other streets in town, the subdivision does not have the busy traffic of Big Horn and Little Horn Avenues. This would allow the town maintenance crew to address the school and business roadways first and Texas Trails with...

A man was in the passenger seat of a vehicle, bleeding from a deep cut on his arm and unable to stop the flow with direct pressure. After surveying the situation,...
Pine Haven’s planning and zoning board has received an official request from Horizon for a variance to build a communications tower west of the community center on private land. After the public meeting a couple of months ago, the matter went quiet, but now the subject is moving forward. The next step, according to board chair Charlie Gully, is the review of the request by Town Attorney Pat Carpenter before a public hearing. “We request that people, either for or against, be present at that public hearing at the community center,” he said....

Wyoming’s commitment to supporting agricul...
CASPER — Wyoming’s oil and gas producers have won a reprieve with a federal court injunction against the Bureau of Land Management’s methane regulation rule, stalling for now regulatory requirements that would have added millions of dollars in overhead for producers and threatened to force many of Wyoming’s small operators out of business, industry representatives say. ‘The left hand of the government does not know what the right hand of the government is doing’ The court declared the BLM’s “Waste Prevention Rule” — which tightens methane em...

For someone unfamiliar with the local cemetery, transversing the site may be a bit daunting as there are no diagrams available to help. The Moorcroft Cemetery is the only graveyard in Crook County to have no formal map of those who have been laid to rest there. This may be about to change, though. As part of her project in the digital collections stewardship class at the Colorado, Wyoming Area Museums Association (CWAM), Moorcroft's West Texas Trail Museum curator Cindy Mosteller, with the...
Bad things happen to everyone and sometimes it gets a little hard to get back up when the ground comes up to meet you. This is the story of Phyllis Southard, who was in a near-fatal accident a year ago, and how she made it home again. On September 20, 2023, Southard (67 at the time) left her Pine Haven home, where she and husband Michael (75) have lived for many years, to meet a friend in Moorcroft. She had lost her grandson three days earlier and was running on autopilot as she took a right...
After another year with KO Construction on site at the C Bar Estates in Pine Haven, the development is, again, running behind schedule and finding approved completion of the project out of reach. Pine Haven Mayor Karla Brandenburg explained to the council at Friday’s workshop that developers Freedom Holdings’ representative, KO owner Kelly Lang and others participated to address the problem as the developer conti...

A federal judge has upheld the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's plans for managing black-footed ferrets in Wyoming, the state where the once-presumed-extinct species was rediscovered some four decades ago. The dispute over how the federal government managed the endangered weasel-like animal traces back nearly a decade to when federal wildlife managers officially designated the Wyoming population as "nonessential, experimental." That classification allows for more regulatory flexibility than...
