  • 2021 finally brings short uptick for thermal coal

Greg Johnson, Gillette News Record Via Wyoming News Exchange|Aug 5, 2021

GILLETTE — Given the choice of what to hear first, good news or bad news, Powder River Basin coal producers and the thousands of people who work the mines are used to asking for the good news – only to be told there is none. Five years of working through a historically swift decline, thermal coal regions like Campbell County and the PRB have settled for most of the mines still operating at any level as the best news they could reasonably hope for. Now for the first time in nearly six years, whe...

Air quality alerts issued by the Wyoming Air Quality Division and National Weather Service covered much of Crook County over the weekend and into the beginning of this week due to the wildfire smoke drifting across the region. The federal AirNow system has detected smoke plumes over this area over recent days and moderate to unhealthy air quality – which isn’t good...

  • New sprinkler system for Texas Trails Park

Over the last couple of months, Texas Trails Park has been watered by hoses attached to sprinkler heads atop tripods. Kids from the subdivision enjoyed the waterworks and were seen dancing under the showers in the grass. Now, the entire system is being laid under the sod as public works completes the installation of the underground sprinkler system to, no doubt, the consternation of a few of said youth. Early Tuesday morning, crewman Cody Amende took some time to do more work on the piping...
