The board of trustees for Crook County Medical Services District (CCMSD) has officially moved to replace its electronic medical records system (EMR), which has been causing serious issues with cash flow and is deeply unpopular with staff. The board met in special session on Friday to discuss the potential contract. The majority of the meeting was spent in executive session to allow board attorney Kara Ellsbury to provide legal advice on the terms of the contract and any other legal issues associated with it. Following the executive session,...

The turn into Pine Haven proper from Highway 113 (Old Sundance Road) has always been without illumination after dark and community leaders have been considering ways to correct this problem. "It's so dark," Councilwoman Emily Smith voiced at a recent workshop, "And very concerning out there...It is a priority...if there's nothing holding us back, we should do that." The state refuses to allow any signage or lights on their right-of-way, leaving the town's benefactor, Keyhole Ranch owners Vince...

Over the last few years, I've been drawn to boxes; more accurately, old boxes. This eventually included drawers, crates, tool boxes and baskets – anything that was the size of a crate, any shape and made of wood. My common sense seemed to leave me when it came to small old wooden containers and, after a while, I started to run out of room. People would ask me, "What are you going to do with all of them?" I had no answer for them; I had to admit to myself, I might have a problem. In order to j...

On Thursday, the Lady Wolves traveled to Burns to open their season at the Burns Tournament. Their first opponent was Arvada, from Denver, CO. The Lady Wolves got off to a slow start, but quickly found their stride and took a 38-8 lead into the half. The second half was much of the same thing and the Wolves were able to get their first victory of the season with a final score of 68-18. We were really excited to start the season and we didn’t shoot it very well from the outside, but that is part of the energy of a new season and first game. W...
The boys played four great games against opponents they would not usually see during the season as they took on Arvada, Southeast, Lingle and Douglas. The boys beat Arvada the first night, then came up short in the other three games, against very good opponents. This team is made up of a number of players who have years of experience and some with very little, but they all have great work ethic and no quit. Every year is a learning process, especially with a new coach, but there is a lot of continuity with what Coach Merchen had put in the...
