A few months ago, the Crook County Commission chose not to support a solid waste district, which would have allowed a board to decide whether it would be more feasible to levy a tax for the upkeep and operation of the Moorcroft landfill for the entire county or close the facility. The decision not to move forward with the solid waste district took the choice from the county as a whole and set it on the shoulders of the Moorcroft Town Council. Final inspection of the lagoon took place last week with the council, HDR Engineering and contractor, RCS. RCS crewmen were touching up a few details as delegates walked the site last Wednesday morning (pictured above.) Major improvements to the accessibility of trails, exhibits, parking and restrooms were completed in July at Devils Tower National Monument. It is the first major upgrade to the park’s infrastructure since the mid-1950s, when annual visitation was about 130,000 compared to about 500,000 now.
